My go to for a seafood meal in downtown Portsmouth. The pastry chef makes magnificent desserts if you so desire. Convenient to Jimmy's Jazz across the street- perfect night out.

The Oysters are perfect- we had some from Maine and the Cape. This place fills up fast and I highly recommend reservations as it's a popular spot for locals and not that big of an establishment. The drinks are good, prices are fair, and service is right on! Sometimes they have oyster special nights check the website.

Jumpin' Jay's comes up on all kinds of "must dine at" lists as well as having been on some Food Network shows. They are not wrong, I can't say enough good things about this place. Given all those accolades we were not hopeful to get a table, however, when we walked by around 6:30 they said, "no problem, anytime." (End of vacation season they were less busy). We asked for 7:30 but were upfront that it may be closer to 8 (we were strolling the 1st Friday Art Walk). They were very amenable to that! We were seated immediately when we got there close to 8. Service was pleasant and waitress was able to answer any questions and advise. Immediately brought us rolls, butter, roasted garlic cloves, and olives. Great start: especially the slathering of roasted garlic cloves on the bread. We then shared a strawberry salad which was better than average. So far, everything is still going well. They even kept our water glasses filled which is of importance to my husband. Also important to my husband is that they gave us new forks and knives between courses. Though there was so much to choose from, we settled on sesame crusted tuna and Thai coconut halibut. Huge portion of delicious blue fin with perfectly cooked green beans and rice. A nice meaty halibut with a melange of stir fried veggies and sushi rice. Both seasoned just right and absolutely delicious.

These are my people! I need to come to NH a few times a year to eat here. Nice atmosphere. Easy access. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The bread service not only comes with butter, but also fresh roasted garlic and olives. Shmeared garlic on warm bread. Yes please! Did I mention these are my people? Also great were the mussels, bacon wrapped scallops "specials" appetizer, and Baja tacos. Scallops were beautifully plated like a stained glass window. We wanted to try it all. But we got extra bread to mop up all the yummy sauce from the mussels.

Dinner at Jumpin' Jays Fish Cafe was delicious! The restaurant was spacious and had lots of tables. It got busy and filled up pretty quick by 6 pm on a Saturday. We enjoyed our food. Everything was cooked and seasoned nicely. The shrimp, scallops, and halibut were cooked perfectly. The green curry had a bit of heat to it. The desserts were very good! The coffee banana rum cake and strawberry torte cake weren't too sweet and it was the perfect way to end our meal.

Amy was our server and she was fantastic. Picked the right day to visit as it was Buck a Shuck or in English $1 oyster day. Yummy local oysters. Had the seafood chowder. Excellent. Split the seafood fettuccine that had a mix of pasta include squid ink, fantastic cream sauce with perfectly cooked lobster, scallops, and shrimp. Desert was lavender Creme brülle with pistachio and cookie crumble. Best meal we've had in Portsmouth. They got very busy after about 6. Get a reservation.
